A new kitchen!

We are all done!  The crown molding and the hardware were installed today.   Now comes the fun/frustrating part...bringing everything up from the cellar and putting it all away in an organized fashion!  It's been a long process, but so worth it!

Day ???

I've lost track of the day!  The sheet rocking that took place didn't really change anything.   But today.....oh my!  The cabinets started going in and the ugly radiator is gone!  We can now get the granite people here to template the kitchen.!!

Day 5

Saturday morning...enjoying a cup of coffee in my pj's when the sound of a truck backing up the driveway got my attention.  My guys were here to sheet rock.....SURPRISE!  They got quite a bit done including framing out the arch over the opening.  They should finish on Monday.

Day 4

So, Day 3 was a nothing day.  We were waiting for the electrician.  We decided we do want lights over the bar area - so I went to Home Depot and brought home 3 choices!  We'll  have to see what fits.

Day 4 - the electrician showed up nice and early.  He and his partner went to work and by 1pm we had old live wires closed old outlets moved and 4 new outlets installed, lights over the bar wired and light switches installed.  In the middle of all the drilling for the new wiring, the cabinets were delivered...17 boxes!  2 of the boxes (the corner lazy susans) didn't fit through the door so they are in the garage for now.  Hopefully they will fit in without their boxes and with some of the doors in the house removed!  Next step insulation and sheetrock.

Day 2

The wall came down !  An electrician was called in and will come next to insert more outlets and update existing electricity.  The fridge nook is intriguing and plans are changing for that!  It's an evolving kitchen!

Day one

Bright and early on Tuesday my guys showed up.  By 3 pm my kitchen looked like this!  We also discovered the original floor and realized there had been only 3 in 80 years!  A small slice of 1940-ish wallpaper was unveiled.  Steve found a crumpled piece of the New York Times dating from June 1965...so this was the 3rd iteration of the kitchen in 80 years!

prep work

Who knew that preparing for a kitchen  update was so involved and stressful?  I guess in theory I knew I'd have to empty kitchen cabinets that hadno been emptied in 30 years.   The thought of having the contractors paint the kitchen, dining room and living room was heavenly...clearing off all of the shelves, emptying cabinets etc was not heavenly!  However overwhelming it was, the house was ready for the contractors to begin.
